Although there is no single definition agreed upon by the main regulatory bodies and international organisations, the use of the concept of micro-grids is experiencing a very significant boom. In general terms, a microgrid is nothing more than an interconnected system that includes a set of generation points and charges, generally at low voltage, which is linked to a central controller providing the necessary instructions to guarantee supply stability (smart grid).

Microgrids play a central role in the energy debate of the future, as they represent a complete tool for implementing the progressive distribution of generation, combining not only generation, but also distribution and management at a localised level.
